  • Put a water heater jacket around your water to keep your water heater from working harder to heat water
  • Insulate your water pipes to get water hot faster and keep water hot longer
  • Use compact fluorescent lightbulbs instead of old incandescent light bulbs, CFLs use less energy and last up to 10 times longer
  • Open the curtains during the day to let natural light in and heat up your home
  • Find and block door drafts to keep the interior of your home warm and cozy
  • Seal gaps and holes on the exterior of your home, many times wires enter the home from the outside and this can be a source where heat can escape. You can use expandable foam or caulk.
  • Unplug certain appliances when not in use, many appliances are phantom energy consumers meaning even when they are off, they still draw power
  • Change or clean your filters regularly to ensure the longest life span for your heater
  • Close the vents in rooms you dont frequently visit so that you dont have to pay for warming up an area you dont use often
  • Buy a programmable thermostat if you dont have one already. Set your programmable thermostat to 65 or cooler when you are away or when sleeping. Then program it to turn on up an hour before you get home or wake up.
